To the editor:
Never did I think that I would write a letter to the editor to advocate for the safety of families, especially mine.

I agree with the right to bear arms and have been a member of the NRA.  I’m also the mother of a teacher and a grandmother whose grandchildren will be attending public schools.

The recent atrocities committed in this country due to gun violence, and the inability of Republicans and Democrats to work together and agree on logical, common-sense solutions, is unacceptable. While mental health is obviously a component of mass shootings, it’s not the only component. The common denominator in these crimes is men. Predominately young men. Sixty-year-old women are not committing these crimes.

It should be illegal for 18-year-olds to purchase AR-15s and other weapons of this nature.  If our representatives choose to not work together in a bi-partisan manner and create laws that keep families safe, then we have an obligation to vote for representatives that will.
