To the editor:
State Rep. Mary Franson's newsletter report this weekend complained that Gov. Walz wasn't giving up his executive emergency powers soon enough because the "COVID-19 emergency is well and truly over" and she sees no reason for him to keep those powers until Aug. 1.
It is definitely "well and truly over" for the 10 people who died from COVID-19 this last weekend.
No police departments have been defunded but she voted against the higher education bill because adding funding for the U of M police officer was voted down. Two weeks ago, the Minneapolis Police Department asked for $5 million additional funding and got it from the city council. The reform bill they want is anemic. The Republicans’ big idea to fight crime is to indulge police misconduct.
She voted against the energy, transportation and climate bills. Not much left. She voted no on the climate and energy bills because her amendment complained of the abuse of the Uighur Muslims in China. That's a matter for the federal government, not Minnesota. She did vote for the Legacy and agricultural bill to support the community. The rest would have also.

So much for caring for our brothers and sisters contracting COVID every day in Minnesota.
