To the editor:
In Alexandria and across the state, Minnesotans want more clean cars. They are money saving, economy building, and they help reduce climate pollution. The federal government is failing to act, so Minnesota is taking action by pushing to implement clean car standards.
Adopting clean car standards would not only make Minnesota a leader in sustainability, but it would make positive changes across the region. Clean car standards are proven to:
Increase consumer choice by offering more electric and low-emission vehicles including trucks and SUVs.
Save drivers money and boost local economies.
Reduce the amount of harmful vehicle emissions that impact public health.
Minnesotans are asking for clean cars. In fact, six out of 10 consumers in Minnesota are interested in electric vehicles and should have more buying options. Automakers – including Ford and GM – have announced plans for dozens of new electric models in the next five years, including 20 electric SUVs and crossover vehicles.
By implementing clean car standards, we give Minnesotans the choice to buy the vehicles they want, and make positive changes for their communities.
