To the editor:
My family, friends and I attended the Memorial Day parade and ceremony at the new Veterans Memorial Park on Memorial Day.
The ceremony at the park began as a solemn remembrance of all veterans who gave their lives for their country and the over 7,000 veterans whose names are inscribed on the granite monoliths that line the park. So, it was disappointing that the keynote speaker chose to inject the current right-wing political talking points into his speech.
The veterans we come together to honor each Memorial Day are not remembered as liberals or conservatives but as one band of brothers and sisters who sacrificed for the common good of their country. What was otherwise a fitting tribute to all veterans on this solemn occasion was tarnished by politics.
