Letter: Let's strive to be friends and good neighbors in Osakis

The following is a letter to the editor submitted to the newspaper by a reader. It does not necessarily reflect the views of the Echo Press. To submit a letter, send it to aedenloff@echopress.com or Echo Press, P.O. Box 549, Alexandria, MN 56308.

To the editor:

Hello friends and neighbors of the City of Osakis,

As you drive through or visit our beautiful city, you may witness some banners or signs that have profane language written on them. I want everyone to know that your Mayor and your City Council members DO NOT condone this type of action. In fact, this is downright embarrassing to such a unique and beautiful city.

I also would like everyone to know from a legal standpoint, our police force and City Council have our hands tied. As is stated in our Constitution, this is the First Amendment known as your freedom of speech. My only hope is that someday these people understand how this looks and how they are representing our city. Let us remember, the City of Osakis belongs to everyone and let's strive to be friends and good neighbors to everyone.
