Letter: Good points made in April 17 letters to editor

To the editor:

(Regarding letters to the editor in the April 17 Echo Press.)

I want to applaud both Rod Johnson and Bonnie Huettl for bringing up the roundabout at the intersection of County Roads 40 and 8. I drive through that intersection every day and if anyone were to want a roundabout, it could be me, as a driver who was driving too fast and turned too short clipped my front bumper. Perhaps a flashing sign that warned the driver of "approaching traffic" would have been enough to keep that from happening. Not only does it seem to be a waste of taxpayer resources, it would be an annoyance to anyone traveling on County Road 40 as they would then be required to reduce their speed every time they pass through the intersection, and not only when there is oncoming traffic.

Jim Conn and Roger Schultz suggested those who are doing all right might be in a position to help our community by supporting local businesses and nonprofits. I have heard plenty of people grumble about other people "living off the government," and I especially challenge you (if you are one of those folks) to consider donating all or a portion of your $1,200 tax free gift. I appreciated the writers’ comment: “ … your discretionary cash, donated wisely, will go to work immediately."

Lastly, Joel Novak brought up how "pro-choice has killed many humans." His letter, along with a Facebook post that said a particular state had "x" number of deaths by COVID-19 in March and "xxx" number of deaths by abortion, got me wondering how many abortions are performed in Minnesota. Going back five years, an average of 9,996 abortions have been performed in Minnesota each year. Getting back to my point, there were 12 deaths in Minnesota due to COVID-19 in March and approximately 833 deaths in Minnesota due to abortion.
