To the editor:

We all want our public schools to provide an outstanding education for our children. At the recent District 206 School Board meeting I saw numerous examples of the high quality of education our school district delivers.

A highlight was the presentation by the teachers and staff who serve on the K-5 reading literacy committee. They explained the process they used to evaluate curriculum materials so they could select the best reading program for our students.

I am in awe of these knowledgeable, enthusiastic teachers who volunteered their personal time, outside of the contract day, to accomplish this important task. I am equally impressed with the leadership and support they received from the district’s administration.

The Early Childhood teachers and staff also presented their curriculum. Their excitement for education, and their dedication to their students shined through.

The driving force behind the energy I witnessed is summed up in the statement on T-shirts worn by three school board members: Because, Kids.
