To the editor:
Selective TV’s annual members meeting is Monday, Aug. 9 at Ida Township Hall at 7 p.m. This meeting, cancelled last year due to COVID-19, is open to current members and everyone who has questions about how over-the-air television in the Alexandria area works.
Selective TV is a nonprofit community asset formed in 1976 to provide low cost television. Today, Selective TV provides 60 channels. Here are the basics:
1. All over-the-air channels in the area, with the exception of 42.1, 42.2, and 42.3, come from one source, and one source only – Selective TV.
2. Selective TV doesn’t receive any government funding.

3. Selective TV is funded and made possible by voluntary membership contributions from individuals, families and businesses that use the service.
4. Annual membership dues are $120.
5. Far too many people who use this service, for one reason or another, aren’t members and don’t contribute. They apparently don’t understand that being a contributing member isn’t something you do for Selective TV, it’s something you do in your own self interest, unless of course you prefer paying $120 a month as opposed to $120 a year.
It has been my experience that once people understand what Selective TV is, how it works, and how it is paid for they’re more than happy to become a contributing member. If you have questions, come to the meeting, contact Selective TV at 320-763-5924, stop in the office at 2308 South Broadway Suite 2, which is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., or visit selectivetv.org.
If you’re currently enjoying Selective TV but aren’t yet a member, do yourself a favor, and do your part in keeping this 45-year-old community asset going strong into the future.
