To the editor:
I am full on board in support of “Blakes Law” (allowing bikers to ride facing oncoming traffic along with pedestrians). With hundreds of hours of running and biking, I have never understood why bikers are placed at such a dangerous disadvantage.
It makes more sense to me that if you see a vehicle approaching several blocks ahead you have ample time to take evasive action if necessary. That same vehicle on 18-wheeler truck traveling at 60+ mph approaching from behind just feet from you can too often result in a serious and needless fatality.
I have never received an adequate answer other than the state wants vehicle traffic going one way and pedestrian traffic going the other.
I feel it is time for some research and meaningful discussion on things like age of victims and let’s do it soon.
