To the editor:

Former President Thomas Jefferson wrote that a rebellion against the powers that be was good for the country. Further, Edmund Burke remarked that “eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”

Concerning the coronavirus, part of the end of the lockdown is that people over the age of 65 should stay home. Why do politicians single out one particular age group?

To imprison people in their own homes is a violation of the constitutional prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment as well as the prohibition of slavery and involuntary servitude.

Twentieth century dictator Adolf Hitler once said, “The masses have no idea how much they must be misled to achieve political goals.” Winston Churchill had a different idea – that it is better to die for freedom than to live as a slave.

Let’s not deny any segment of the population their rights, which are framed in natural law, to their own life, their own liberty and the pursuit of their own happiness.
