Letter to the Editor: Isn't Mexico supposed to pay for wall?

To the editor:

In response to Jim Barrett's Jan. 23 letter, "Are border walls really immoral?"

I don't know if you have forgotten, but I thought Mexico was going to pay for the wall?

Trump has said repeatedly that Mexico would pay for the wall. During his rowdy rallies, his classic line is, "Who is going to pay for the wall" and his supporters chant, "Mexico."

I have heard everything about how Mexico is paying for the wall through the new trade deal, which is not even true according to factcheck.org, "Experts say it won't." When you mentioned the whole walls are immoral bit, you forget border crossings are at an all-time low, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protections agency. Another lie you said was Nancy Pelosi has a wall around her home, which is not true and Politifact rates it a "Pants on fire." Also, another lie not brought by you, but others I have heard is that the Democrats have supported a wall in the past, which is not true and Politifact rates it as "Mostly False." Democrats are for securing the border, but we just don't want to do it with a wall. It's not the medieval ages; it's the 21st century and there are a lot more ways people cross and transport drugs. It's called port of entry, tunnels and drones. It's not my fault that the con man conned his supporters and now is saying that the taxpayers are paying $5.7 billion now for a wall that is only 200 miles, which according to the BBC, the wall could cost in the range of $12 billion to $70 billion for the whole border.
