To the editor:

It is curious that, according to the Pew Research Center, 68 percent of white Evangelical Christians say that the United States has no responsibility to accept refugees from other countries, regardless of circumstances. At the same time, 65 percent of people who identify as non-religious believe that the United States does have such responsibility.

With each passing day, the fraudulence of Christian Evangelicals becomes more obvious, disturbing and sickening. "Prosperity Gospel Christians" trivialize the social gospel, which calls for justice, while selling vulnerable believers on the idea that God favors the just with material wealth. By inference, if God has not favored you with material wealth, you must not be just.

Certainly, poor refugees must not be just. The president has stated this repeatedly. And if you're not just, then no one has any responsibility to help you.

Each day my non-religious friends, rich in character, give me hope. White Evangelicals bring only sadness.
