To the editor:
There are many reasons to be grateful for the leadership of President Biden. Integrity, decency, caring for his country over himself. These core values are reflected in his policies.
The American Rescue Plan brings over a trillion dollars into America’s traditional infrastructure, such as roads and bridges. It includes funding for much that affects the lives of Douglas County residents:
- Additional direct stimulus payments.
- K-12 schools to help students return to the classroom.
- Assistance for small businesses affected by the pandemic.
- Defraying rental costs for low income households.
- Energy assistance.
- COVID-related healthcare and mental health.
- Child care assistance.
- Access to reliable internet.
- Additional veteran-specific support.
- Vaccine research, development and distribution.
Six million jobs were created in President Biden’s first year in office, making it the greatest year of job creation in American history. He reestablished the United States’ international image and created solutions to some of the problems caused by the prior administration, such as rejoining the Paris climate accord and halting the United States' departure from the World Health Organization.
No matter our differences, most of us want similar things for ourselves and our families. President Biden is making that possible for more of us.
