To the editor:
Conservationists encourage us to NOT mow our lawns during the month of May as it is harmful to bees and other pollinators that are still waking up from dormancy.
Mowing in May also deprives pollinators of their earliest food resources such as dandelions. A recent study in Wisconsin showed homes that participated in No Mow May had more bee species and five times more bees total compared to mowed greenspaces.
