In July 2012, the Alexandria School District 206 Board of Education approved a comprehensive five- to seven-year strategic plan that has guided our work these past two years.
A team consisting of students, parents, teachers, community members, and district representatives developed the strategic plan. As part of the planning process, the mission statement and core values were revisited and a vision statement was developed. Specific strategies and action plans are derived from our vision: “to be an extraordinary school district that tailors learning for each child, by working together!”
The desire with the strategic planning process was to create a document that would reflect the priorities of the District 206 community. Essentially we answered the questions, “what is it that we wish to create with District 206 in the future” and “how will we go about it?” The plan serves as a road map to future planning, resource allocation, staff development and decision-making.
In late October, representatives from the 2012 Strategic Planning team participated in a retreat workshop to celebrate progress made thus far with implementation of the plan, and to approve new directions for the district. The focus of the discussion revolved around three areas:
•Personalized learning for all.
•Comprehensive and coherent programming to increase achievement.
•Systems that respond to needs and demands.
These three areas support the District’s primary focus: student achievement.
Our staff wants to ensure an outstanding educational experience for Alexandria School District 206 students – each and every one of them. Our curriculum initiatives support our teachers in improving learning for all students. Our teachers use a variety of assessments to get the fullest picture of student learning and growth, and instructional strategies to meet students where they are at. Our professional learning communities inspire inquiry, reflection, collaboration, innovation, and best practices.
Our strategic plan is important work. It’s exciting to take the time to reflect on our progress, both to see how much has been accomplished these past two years and what exciting opportunities remain to improve the experiences and education of our students moving forward.
We have many things to celebrate in Alexandria School District 206. We are appreciative to all those who contributed to the development and renewal of the strategic plan. We appreciate the thoughtful, valuable and constructive input.
We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the community to implement the goals of the plan. It is through this strong partnership with the community that we have created a school district that is truly extraordinary.
