An Echo Press Editorial: What makes you happy?
We started something at our Echo Press office a couple of weeks ago that's very fitting for Thanksgiving. Maybe some other businesses in the area can pick up on the idea.
On a big piece of whiteboard in our conference room, we posed a simple question to all our employees: "What makes you happy?"
Employees could go into the conference room at their own leisure and write down an answer or two. The responses ran the gamut, from seemingly small things on up to very important things. We think people will identify with many of the messages. It's also a tip-of-the-iceberg reminder of the many, many things we can all be grateful for this Thanksgiving. Here they are:
My awesome son!
Grandchild (to which someone added, "I second that.")
80 degrees, sun, sand.
My Echo family.
Deb's back (drawn in a heart to show support for an employee recovering from an illness).
Family, friends and Mexico.
Learning something new.
Catalogues in the mail.
Reading a great story.
A wonderful place to work.
Winning at Words with Friends.
A small story idea that turns into a very good story.
My Echo teammates.
The right to vote.
Sammy (the son of an employee)
Devin (the husband of an employee)
Inspiring story to write.
Warm, sunny days.
When Vikes win.
Too often, people go through life so busily, that they forget about all the blessings that matter or even the small joys that can brighten a day. This Thanksgiving season, try the whiteboard "happy" game at your office or in your own home.
It's amazing how quickly that empty space will fill up.
