Shirley A. Resley


Shirley Arlene (Randall) Resley, age 94, a lifetime resident of Osakis passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the Galeon Community Memorial Home in Osakis. A private family memorial service and picnic will be held this summer.

Shirley was born September 24, 1928, in Gordon Township on the family farm to Teddy and Edna Randall. She attended Todd County District 101 Country School and graduated from Osakis High School in 1945. As a young woman, Shirley was a telephone operator in Osakis and enjoyed her job keeping people connected.

On October 14, 1947, Shirley married her sweetheart Melvin Resley at the Methodist Church in Long Prairie, Minnesota. They farmed and raised three children. After retiring in 1985 the Resleys moved into the Osakis Manor Apartments in Osakis. Their family takes great comfort that Shirley and Melvin are together again.

Besides her love of family, Shirley also enjoyed spending time in nature, playing cards with neighbors and friends, and reading about history. Shirley was quite a historical researcher and even co-authored a locally published booklet about the history of Osakis called “Our Osakis Heritage.”

Shirley was known for her beautiful knitting and crocheting, and every Christmas she knitted warm slippers for her family and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her children, Daniel (Tuyet) Resley of Corpus Christi, Texas; LuAnn (Dale) Beckman of Osakis; and Randy (Gretchen) Resley of Osakis; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and one brother.

Arrangements are through Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis.
