James Robert Johnson

James Robert Johnson was born March 5, 1934 in Alexandria, MN, the son of Arthur Carl and Rose Louise (Engebretson) Johnson.
On June 3, 1967 Jim was united in marriage to Judith Jane Shafer. They were blessed with one son, Steven James.
Jim learned and worked in plastering for his dad. Then he worked many years at the Garden Center Bowling Lanes. He also worked on I-94 and I-29 when constructed. He did maintenance work and he enjoyed mowing for his son’s lawn care business in his later years.
Jim enjoyed fishing and duck hunting. He was a very good bowler - most remember him as “Hurricane” or “Killer”. He enjoyed watching most sports and could tell you about the players and remember their stats. Especially the Vikings and the Twins. Over the years he was able to see the Twins play in all of their stadiums.
He is survived by his wife and son, sister Rose Marie Stoeck of Alexandria, sister-in-law Natalie Johnson of Alexandria, brother-in-law David (Kim) Nelson of Alexandria and several nephews and nieces.
On Thursday, March 2, 2023, Jim passed away peacefully in his home. He was eighty-eight years old.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arthur O. Johnson of Alexandria, sister Ilene and brother-in-law Roland Bromberg of Cloquet, brother-in-law Boris Stoeck of Alexandria.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 11, 2023 with a visitation 1 hour prior at New Testament Church 2505 State Hwy 29 N, Alexandria, MN. There will be a lunch to follow.
The family would like to thank Knute Nelson Hospice for their help and support in his home care. This allowed his family to have Jim home for his remaining days.
