Wayne Douglas Knauf was born on February 25, 1942, in Fargo, North Dakota. He played football, basketball, and track for Moorhead High School, graduating in 1960. He attended St. Johns University (St. Joseph, MN) and graduated from Logan Chiropractic College (St. Louis, MO).
Wayne served as a training officer in the US Army during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969 at Fort Ord, California.
Wayne was united in marriage to Diana Appling on November 23, 1970 at Madonna Del Sasso Church in Salinas, California. The couple lived a short time in Salinas before moving to Santa Rosa, CA, and then to Alexandria in 1974. Wayne and his brother Larry started a Chiropractic office in Alexandria. Wayne enjoyed raising a family, golf, waterskiing, hunting, and many other activities. Wayne retired in 2009.
Wayne died peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, surrounded by family.
Wayne is survived by wife, Diana; sons: Paul Knauf, Mark Appling, Jeffrey Appling, David Appling; six grandchildren, and sister, Nancy (Roger) Richards.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Mathias and Audrey, and brothers Larry and Terry Knauf.
A memorial service was held at Grand Arbor in Alexandria. A burial service will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
