Marjorie “Marge” Hockert
Marjorie (Marge) Ann Hockert of Millerville, 79, passed away on June 26, 2021. The daughter of Clifford and Evelyn Nelson, Marjorie was born on July 4, 1941 and raised in Minneapolis. As a youth she attended 9 different schools. Some of her favorite activities included riding bike and roller skating with her siblings and friends. While attending High School Marge worked part time at Arthur Murray Dance Studio, the National Arthritis Foundation and Dayton Hudson Corporation, where she developed many close friendships. And it was through these friendships that she met her husband Roger Hockert while attending a wedding of one of her co-workers. Roger and Marge were united in marriage on May 21, 1960 at St. Kevin’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Shortly after they married, Marge and Roger purchased the family farm in Millerville Township where they raised their five children.
Marge took great pride in raising her children and grandchildren with a strong Catholic faith and a strong work ethic. In their early years she enjoyed working on the farm and keeping books for their dairy and implement business. She was known for her excellent cooking and baking skills. Favorites included her caramel rolls, pies, bars, apple and rhubarb crisps, and most of all her chocolate chip cookies.
It was often a busy household at the Hockert farm. Yet Marge could most often be found in her kitchen, welcoming her in-laws, nieces and nephews, grandchildren as well friends of her children and grandchildren like they were all family. Unless of course she was gone fishing, which she loved to do whenever she had some free time.
Marge loved volunteering at her church, (Seven Dolors Parish), as she taught religion classes, served funeral lunches and coordinated Christian Mothers activities for several years. Additionally she was a member of the Millerville First Responders and often assisted with the Red Cross blood drive.
Marge also enjoyed traveling with her husband Roger as they enjoyed many years of trips to Las Vegas, day trips to Minnesota casinos, and an occasional week long getaway to Wisconsin and Illinois.
Marge will be remembered as a patient, loving, kind and warm hearted woman. And her love for her family was unconditional. Above all, she was a woman of strong faith and had a deep love for the Lord. The Rosary was very important to Marge and her husband Roger. The two of them enjoyed praying the Rosary several times a day, also watching TV mass, and EWTN.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters: Colleen & husband, Tom Peterson, Deb & husband, Doug Schaffer, Judy & husband, Dale Boeckman; her son, Kevin; eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; sister; Dolores Pylka, and brother; Michael Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her son, Rick; and parents, Clifford and Evelyn Nelson.
