Gilbert Hagen
Gilbert Hagen, 85, of Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2020.
He died of heart failure and was proud that he did not have COVID.
Born March 10, 1935, on the family farm outside of Wood Lake, Minnesota, he was the son of Alice Bruss and was adopted by Gordon Hagen in 1942.
Gilbert attended school at Madison, Minnesota. After graduation in 1953, he was in the National Guard and went on active duty in May 1954. He was released from active duty in April 1956 and then returned to Madison.
He married Barbara Enger in 1957. He worked for Mobil Oil Co. in St. Paul, Minnesota, before joining his father Gordon in the wholesale beer business in Worthington, Minnesota, in 1960.
He worked for his father until 1970 when he purchased Hagen Beverage Distributing Co. He ran the business until 1996. He stayed involved in the company until 2000 when he officially retired.
Gilbert enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting and his family.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; his three sons, including Bruce and Linda Hagen; Mark Hagen and his fiance Elizabeth Clark; and Greg Hagen; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Alice Hagen, and his daughter-in-law Suzanne Hagen.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. He will be buried at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, Minnesota.
