Cheryl L. Anderson

Cheryl L. Anderson, age 72, of Alexandria, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at her home after living bravely and gallantly with cancer for more than two years.

Due to current circumstances, a celebration of life gathering will take place at a later date at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria.

Cheryl Lee was born on May 23, 1947, to Orvin and Josephine (Klegseth) Johnson in Alexandria. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Cheryl graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in 1965. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Gary Anderson on October 2, 1965, at Bethesda Lutheran Church. Together they made their home in Alexandria and Cheryl raised their two children, Tierney and Thomas. When her children were older, Cheryl began working at Tannenbaum Christmas Store. After a few years, she began working in the jewelry department at Walmart where she worked until retiring after 19 years.

During retirement, Gary and Cheryl enjoyed spending a lot of leisurely time together, especially in their two-season porch. They also enjoyed gardening together and spending their anniversaries in Duluth. Cheryl enjoyed watching cooking shows and Turner Classic Movies, as well as shopping for purses and shoes. She is famously known for her beautifully decorated Christmas trees that adorned every room of the house during the holiday season. She instilled in her children a love for space and fascination of watching the moon and the stars. She had a fierce love and loyalty to God, family and animals, and will especially be remembered for her great sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Harold; and brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gary; daughter, Tierney (Phil Galchutt) Helmers of Lakeville; son, Thomas (Nancy) Anderson of Bedford, New Hampshire; brother, Dennis Johnson of Minneapolis; two sisters, Marilyn Kluver and Elaine Kuhnau both of Alexandria; faithful feline companion, Bentley; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
