Charles “Chuck” Tillmann

Charles ‘Chuck’ Tillmann, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday December 17, 2020 under the loving care of family and Hospice of Douglas County.

Chuck was born October 18, 1939 to Charles Jr. and Valborg (Sween) Tillmann in Montevideo, MN, the eldest of four boys.

Chuck was united in marriage to Glorietta ‘Glory’ Raffelson on October 7, 1961. Chuck and Glory were blessed with four boys, Scott, Gregg, Eric, Jeff (Bethany), and three grandchildren, Cody, Madison, and Tessa.

Chuck enlisted in the Navy and served his country for 3 years in Maryland. He graduated with an Associate degree in Tool & Die from Mankato Tech and began his career as a Tool Maker. He moved his family to Alexandria in 1970 and began employment with Donnelly Custom Molding, eventually becoming an owner of the company.

In his youth Chuck was an avid outdoorsman and Boy Scout – earning the Eagle Scout award. He passed his love of hunting and fishing down to his four sons, and any neighbor kid that wanted to tag along. Grouse hunting was his favorite, but he would take his boys on any adventure they wanted, because for Chuck, it was always about family... He especially enjoyed the fishing trips to Canada and northern MN with his boys, and they made sure he got the front seat in the float plane! He was a past member of the Viking Sportsman Club.

Moving to Alexandria started a love of lake life. Chuck and Glory enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their homes on Ida and Le Homme Dieu. Arizona was their winter home for many years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Glory, sons, grandchildren, and brothers Jon, James, and Joe Tillmann. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
