Curtis Sherman Steen
Curtis Sherman Steen passed away on June 14, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Curtis was born on March 28, 1948 in Dawson, MN to Adeline and Lester Steen. Curtis was united in marriage to Janice Trelstad on August 9, 1968. After marriage they lived in Minneapolis where Curtis worked for NAPA in several locations until they moved to Appleton in 1971. He served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1967 to 1973. Curtis and Janice owned and operated an auto parts business in Appleton until 1993 when they moved to their lake home in Alexandria. He worked at Douglas County DAC until he retired in 2008. In retirement Curtis and Janice traveled around the country in their RV. Curtis enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Carlos, playing cards and games, his cats, and being with family and friends. Curtis is survived by his wife Janice, Edina; son Scott (Shawn Gensch) of Phoenix, AZ; son Sherman, Minneapolis; son Shawn (Edgar Zapata), Edina; sister-in-law Sandy Steen, Henderson, NV; sister-in-law Marian Lee, Eagan; aunts and uncle, Winnie Giese, LaVonne Berndt, Rhoda and Herman Rabanus, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Adeline and Lester Steen, step-father Warden Ashling, brother David Steen, uncles Bob Giese and Harlan Berndt, and special cousin Rick Clemenson. The family will have a private celebration of his life. Curtis donated his body for medical education to Mayo Clinic. Internment will be at the Dawson Cemetery at a later date.
