A construction tractor driven by David Reque, 58, of Farwell, turned east onto Highway 27 from County Road 1 and accelerated when it was rear-ended by a 2010 Lincoln Navigator that was also going eastbound on Highway 27, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Navigator was driven by Megan Vanscoik, 29, of Alexandria, who along with four passengers were all transported to Alomere Health for precautionary evaluation, the state patrol said.

The passengers included: Jaelynn Fenning, 8; Daetynn Vanscoik, 6; and Lucas Hookom, 1, all of Alexandria; and another 1-year-old boy who was not identified.

Propane truck rolls over, spilling fuel

Propane and diesel fuel leaked from a propane truck following a rollover Thursday morning, July 11, causing a Douglas County road to be shut down.

The liquid propane delivery truck rolled over in the northbound ditch off of Douglas County Road 2, south of Lake Ellen Road SE, at about 8 a.m.

The truck's driver, Michael Kugel, 38, of Osakis, was able to exit the vehicle after the crash, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and was taken to Alomere Hospital in Alexandria by North Memorial Ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.

Once the truck was lifted upright, it was towed to Pope County Co-Op in Villard to off-load the liquid propane.

In addition to the sheriff's office and North Memorial Ambulance, Osakis Fire and first responders and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash. It is under investigation by the sheriff's office and the State Patrol's commercial vehicle division.
