Suspect arrested in Becker County fatal hit-and-run

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — The suspect in the fatal Becker County hit-and-run crash between a side-by-side utility vehicle and a car was arrested late Monday, July 1, according to a news release from the Becker County Sheriff's Office.

Aaron Pelham, 36, of Waubun, was identified by authorities as the driver of a 1999 Mercury Marquis which was involved in a June 24 hit-and-run crash with a Polaris Ranger UTV on County Road 158 and Wilkinson Lane in Maple Grove Township.

The crash killed the driver of the UTV, Michael Joe Tibbetts, 27, of Ogema.

The Becker County Sheriff's Office said Pelham fled the scene. Pelham is booked in Becker County Jail for failing to stop for a collision, according to the jail website.

Formal charges are pending and the crash is still under investigation, according to the news release.
