Student-built fish houses up for sale: Winning bids will support classes
Here's a way to reel in a bargain on a new fish house and help students in the Alexandria Area High School's building trades class — make a bid on one of the two fish houses the students constructed.
Last year, the students built a "tiny house," which was auctioned and they are doing that again this year with the fish houses, using an Alexandria Education Foundation grant.
One of the fish houses measures 8-by-16 feet and requires a minimum bid of $6,750. The other house is 8-by-12 feet with a minimum bid of $5,500. The materials were not donated so the minimum bids only cover expenses.
All profits will be used to purchase new equipment and materials for future building trades classes.
Bids, written in total dollar amounts, must be submitted to the AAHS main office by Wednesday, Feb.13, at 3 p.m. At that time, the bids will be reviewed and the highest written bid will be accepted for the sale.
The fish houses feature insulated floors, walls and ceilings; steel walls and roofs; pine interiors, tin ceilings, Thermo-Tech windows and Bayer Built doors with deadbolt locks. Blank floor plans allow the buyer to customize the layout and fish holes.
If the buyer declines the final terms, the next highest bidder will be awarded the sale. Incomplete forms or bids submitted by mail that are received after the deadline may be denied at the sole discretion of the seller. It is recommended to submit bids in person to the office.
Separate bids may be submitted for each fish house with the intentions of only purchasing one.
Purchase price does not include taxes or registration fees. The fish houses are sold "as is" with no expressed warranty. Buyer assumes all liabilities at the time of the sale.
Bidders agree that upon submission of bid, they have seen and agreed to the terms and conditions of sale.
Payments must be submitted by check or money order to the Alexandria Public Schools Business Office by Friday, Feb. 22 or as arranged with the seller.
