Boys basketball: Depth shines as Cardinals win a third straight

The Alexandria boys basketball team is trending upward right now after the Cardinals dominated Little Falls on Thursday to win their third straight game.

Alexandria put up its best offensive performance, beating the Flyers (3-6) 90-44 to up its record to 6-4 overall.

The Cardinals shot 61 percent (35-of-57) overall, including 9-of-19 from three. They knocked down 11-of-15 free throws and had 20 assists.

Four players finished in double figures. Treyton Thompson had a big game of 20 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks and two assists. Colton Roderick had 16 points and seven steals. Cody Brandon added 15 points and Trey Hoepner finished with 13 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals.

The Cardinals will put their winning streak on the line with a couple of games on the road in the Central Lakes Conference. They are at Brainerd (4-4) on Jan. 10 and at Willmar (4-3) on Jan. 15 before returning home on Jan. 18 against St. Cloud Tech (3-7).
