Alexandria’s Hanson honored with Minnesota PGA Award

Grant Hanson

Alexandria’s Grant Hanson was recently honored as the 2018 Public Facility Promoter of the Year among PGA Professionals in Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota.

The award is designed to recognize a PGA Professional for outstanding contributions to their facility. Criteria considered for the award includes golf programs offered, tournament operations, merchandising, rules, promotion and history at the facility they work.

The honor also recognizes proven leadership ability, involvement in civic activities and local charitable causes in the community, as well as someone of outstanding character.

“It is hard to pick out one thing that would have made someone nominate me or ultimately get me picked for this award,” Hanson said. “Over the past couple of years, I have tried to be creative in creating new events and finding ways to get people interested in golf. I think the reason I won the award is I continually work on finding new ways to not only promote my facility but to promote golf in Alexandria.”

Hanson, who is the head professional at the Geneva Golf Club in Alexandria, has 16 years of experience in the golf industry working in both Arizona and Minnesota. He was a standout golfer himself in high school in Alexandria before competing four years at St. Cloud State University.

“I was honored when I was informed that I won the award,” Hanson said of the Minnesota PGA recognition. “Any time a group of your peers (members of the PGA) recognize the work you have done, it is very special and unexpected.”
