To the editor:

All of us here in Minnesota, and globally, face severe economic and security risks from dangerous and growing climate instability. We see this in the explosive damage caused by Hurricane Michael in Florida.

The latest UN report says we must put a price on carbon, and other greenhouse gases, if we want any hope of heading off the worst consequences of a warming planet. We often talk about the need to care for others as we care for ourselves - The Golden Rule. As citizens, please call on our lawmakers to rapidly enact a carbon fee and dividend system, before it's too late for our children and grandchildren. Many experts think this is the most effective and timely lever we can use to stave off environmental disaster.
