LETTER: Some hate groups are in disguise
To the editor:
OK. A couple of our local "alt literate" folks have forced my hand. I have heard the Southern Poverty Law Center badmouthed multiple times recently for their listing of certain, outwardly religious, organizations as hate groups. I choose to talk about the Family Research Council, since that one is mentioned often.
I'd never taken a close look at this outfit. One peek at their website and my only reaction is, "Holy smoke." If these people are truly espousing Christian values, I'm telling you I don't want anything to do with it. Here is, word for word, the first two sentences in their
"Homosexuality" section: "Family Research Council believes that homosexual conduct is harmful to the persons who engage in it and to society at large, and can never be affirmed. It is by definition unnatural, and as such is associated with negative physical and psychological health effects."
Oh, boy! I now pronounce you "science deniers." Transgender? Must be a lifestyle choice. What man wouldn't be willing to have his penis removed because "I'm feeling more like a woman today?" This organization shovels out so much B.S. it must be running a feedlot on the
Groups like the FRC want to drag you back to the Middle Ages. Don't let them! Hate group? I say yes. Does most of our community think like this? Or is it just a handful of ignorant individuals? Talk about parochial. If you think that means catholic, you're wrong again!
