Horizon Public Health launched a health campaign to help people remember best practices aimed at promoting behaviors that can limit the spread of COVID-19, especially as the state opens up.

The campaign is called “This is Serious” and features a series of images that focus on the three “Ws:”

  • Wait six feet apart and avoid close contact from other people.

  • Wear a cloth face covering

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer.

The campaign consists of digital and social media ads, radio public service announcements, billboard messaging and signage emphasizing personal responsibility and behaviors proven to minimize transmission of the virus.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health data, the median age of confirmed cases in the Horizon Public Health communities has been between 35-40 years of age. The number of cases in Douglas County was at 51 on June 17 and has inched up to 58 as of June 29.

For more information on demographics of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Horizon Public Health service area, visit the website www.horizonpublichealth.org.

“By continuing to practice good prevention, we can do two things at once, help stop the spread of COVID-19 and responsibly and safely find a new normal in the midst of this pandemic,” said Ann Stehn, Horizon Public Health administrator, “But we can’t get caution fatigue and we must continue to be vigilant by taking the necessary steps to keep our cases down. It is our hope that these messages remind people that this is serious and it isn’t over yet.”

The campaign focuses on three actions everyone can do to protect our families, neighbors and workplaces as people move about in the community. In addition to the three Ws, everyone should also do the following:

  • Stay home if you are sick (know the symptoms of COVID-19).

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces daily.

  • Follow current guidelines set by the Minnesota Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control.
