The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Todd County surged to 110 as of Wednesday, May 20 — 23 more cases than the previous day.

Todd County now has the 19th highest total cases of the 87 counties in the state.

Cases in Douglas County now stand at 24, up one case from May 19, according to information from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Stress on the hospital system continues to increase. A day after 57 new hospitalizations were recorded — the largest one-day jump in new hospitalizations with COVID-19 — the hospital system gained another 22 persons in one day in Wednesday's report.

Those new patients bringing the statewide total of non-ICU use within hospitals by COVID-19 patients to 338. ICU use, meanwhile dropped by 17 patients to 212 persons.

To reduce the spread of the coronavirus, health leaders recommend the following:

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or sleeve, or a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands afterwards.

  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom or before eating. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

  • Avoid touching your face – especially your eyes, nose and mouth – with unwashed hands.

  • Stay home if you have cold- or flu-like symptoms, for 10 days after your illness onset and three days after your fever resolves without fever reducing medicine (whichever is longer), and avoid close contact with people who are sick.
