Alexandria leaders urge residents to obey stay-at-home extension

Alexandria city leaders are asking residents to comply with Gov. Tim Walz's decision to extend his stay-at-home order until May 4.

“Now is the time we can make a difference in the battle against this pandemic," said Mayor Sara Carlson in a news release issued Wednesday hours after the governor's action. "We know this a hard time. My heart goes out to each of you. With your dedication, this great community will come together and do the right thing. Encourage each other and look out for your neighbor. Together we are stronger. ”

City leaders noted that confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Minnesota are rapidly increasing. Community spread of COVID-19 also continues to increase in Minnesota. The state has already taken proactive steps to ensure that it's ahead of the curve on COVID19 prevention and response, city leaders said.

What about those who left the area in the winter and are planning to return to Alexandria for the spring and summer?

“We welcome back the Snow Birds," said Police Chief Rick Wyffels. "We ask that you respect the recommendation of a two-week self-quarantine. We are here in the city to enforce what is best for all citizens. The Alexandria Police Department will always protect and serve you. We ask that you do your part in protecting our community as well.”
