ALEXANDRIA — Another winter storm is bearing down on Douglas and other counties in central and west central Minnesota.
The snow started late Sunday night, Feb. 20, and piled up to about 6 inches on many driveways in the area by 9 a.m. Monday.
Douglas County is in a winter storm warning until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22. Other affected counties include Todd, Morrison, Stevens, Pope, Stearns, Benton, Lac Qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa, Kandiyohi and Meeker.
Cities included in the warning are Alexandria, Long Prairie, Little Falls, Morris, Glenwood, St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, Madison, Benson, Montevideo, Willmar and Litchfield.
The National Weather Service reported that total snow accumulations of 10 to 14 inches are possible with higher amounts likely in the northern counties. AccuWeather reported that by midnight on Tuesday, total accumulations of 1 to 2 feet of snow are possible in the Alexandria area.
The National Weather Service warns that travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
Also, wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
