Snowshoe event at Lake Carlos State Park canceled

The Candlelight Snowshoe event at Lake Carlos State Park this Saturday, March 16 has been canceled because of safety concerns.

"While the snow in the park is still great for snowshoeing, the roads and parking lots within the park are very icy, making this unsafe, especially at night," said Ben Eckhoff, naturalist at the park. "We were looking forward to this event, but instead we now will look forward to next winter's candlelight events."

The park is still open, even though some parking lots and roads are closed because of ice, Eckhoff added.

"The snow conditions again are still good for snowshoeing," he said. "We did, however, have to close the snowshoe trail in the tamarack fen due to slush and water, so you are back to snowshoeing your own path. The ski trails are not groomed at this time either with the rain and melting, but remain open."
