Effective at midnight, Thursday, July 22, ALP Utilities is implementing Stage 1 mandatory water use restrictions for residents and businesses of Alexandria in compliance with the statewide Drought Warning Phase designation.

ALP is asking all of its customers to follow odd/even watering guidelines and to alter the times at which they water their lawns and gardens. If the last digit of your house number is an odd number, you may water on odd-numbered calendar days. If the last digit is an even number, you may water on even-numbered calendar days.

ALP recommends sprinkling before 11 a.m. or after 5 p.m., when it is most efficient to avoid excessive evaporation.

Examples:

Address of 1208 waters on 22nd of the month (even day).

Address of 1209 waters on 23rd of the month (odd day).

Because of Minnesota’s continued and widespread drought conditions, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has implemented the next provision in the Minnesota Statewide Drought Plan indicating Minnesota is now in a drought warning phase.

ALP provided examples of helpful ways you can reduce your water consumption during this time:

  • Restrict non-essential outdoor use such as lawn irrigation.

  • Do not power wash buildings or wash cars.

  • Avoid filling swimming pools.
