The bridge is out over the Pomme de Terre River on Highway 55 just south of Barrett, causing the bridge portion of the construction project to be delayed.

The bridge replacement between Barrett and Hoffman has been experiencing delays due to de-watering issues, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. It urges drivers to continue to follow the detour route on Highway 59 and Highway 27.

Crews prepped the bridge site for de-watering and removed the bridge, but MnDOT said the de-watering measures that were in place failed. The agency says it has been working with the contractor and looking into solutions so the bridge work can resume and the box culverts can be installed before winter.

The remainder of the Highway 55 project from Barrett to the Grant/Douglas county line, which began in August, has been progressing. Final striping is expected to take place this week, weather permitting.

With the bridge out, local traffic cannot access Highway 55 from the Barrett side. In the event of a plowable snowfall, MnDOT operators will plow up to the last residence on the closed portion of Highway 55.
