Douglas County's "other season" began last week: road construction.

Crews from Minnerath Construction started removing asphalt on County Road 9 near Carlos on Wednesday, May 5. The stretch of County Road 9 from County Road 20 to Prairie Road will be completely redone.

It's the county's first major road construction project of the season.

The project begins an ambitious schedule of roadwork to improve and maintain roadways in Douglas County, according to Douglas County Engineer Tim Erickson. “We appreciate the public’s patience and flexibility. We will do our best to communicate road closures and best alternate routes so everyone can get where they’re going as quickly as possible,” he added.

Highway 29 is the suggested detour route. Minnerath will provide impacted homeowners with a way to safely enter and exit the construction zone but all others are asked to use only the detour.

Work is expected to be completed by June 30.
