On Thursday, Oct. 28, Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge is holding its annual gala at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction, followed by dinner and a program featuring the men's and women's MnTC Choir at 6:30 p.m.
"We're excited," said MnTC events manager Sue Van Hal. "It will have the men's and women's choir singing and sharing a lot of their stories of restored hope, so it's a great event."
Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge Centers offer a broad range of services. It provides Christian faith-based, residential care to young people and adults who struggle with life-controlling problems.
"We are an addiction treatment and recovery program that's been in operation since 1983 here in Minnesota," Van Hal said. "We serve people ages 13 to 74 in 12 locations across the state. ...
"We have long-term recovery, short-term treatment programs. We also have a Know the Truth prevention program that goes to high schools and middle schools across the state," she said.
Van Hal added that the program currently has an 80% recovery rate.
"It's the best in the state, according to the studies that have been done," she said.
The program will be opening another location in Alexandria, it was announced earlier this year. It will be located on a 14-acre site at 525 Willow Drive on the northwest shoreline of Lake Winona.
"We have a purchase agreement, (and have) signed documents that we now own property," Van Hal said. "We're in the fundraising stage, so our event is a fundraiser, mostly for the general work of Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, but the funds from (Oct. 28) are going to be designated for this capital campaign."
Van Hal said between 500 and 600 people are expected to attend next week's event, which in addition to music, will also feature stories shared by members of the choir.
Five to six similar events are held around the state throughout the year.
"They are a major fundraiser, but more than that, they are major awareness pieces," Van Hal said. "There's a lot of people that come to the gala that don't know anything about Teen Challenge, and they're there to learn and find out what this is all about, especially now that we're coming to your community. It would be a great way for them to find out what this organization is all about.
"The people in the neighborhood that are getting a new neighbor — they may want to know what is Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, and the gala would be a great place to get that information," she said.
Van Hal asks that interested persons register for the event by Thursday, Oct. 21.
