ALEXANDRIA — State Sen. Torrey Westrom, R-Alexandria, continues to recover from the injuries he suffered in a snowmobile crash on Sunday, March 12.
Westrom posted this message on his Facebook page Sunday, March 19:
"Thank you to everyone who reached out following the snowmobile accident last week. Your prayers, cares and concerns were very appreciated and heartening. Turns out, I broke three ribs and received great care at Douglas County Alomere hospital immediately following the accident. A special thanks to all their great staff for their exceptional care! I am continuing my recovery and have been monitoring things in St. Paul. I’ve been able to work remotely with my office staff to keep in touch with constituents while my colleagues have stepped up to present my bills. I really appreciate the thoughts and prayers from so many and look forward to returning to the Capitol soon."
The crash happened on the north end of Lake Ida at about 3 p.m. A 13-year-old family member who had received his youth snowmobile safety certificate was driving the snowmobile when it struck an chunk in a snow drift, causing Westrom, a passenger, to be thrown clear of the snowmobile, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Westrom was elected to the Senate in 2012, after serving eight two-year terms in the House.
