ALEXANDRIA — The 20th Senior Expo will take place Thursday, June 16 at the St. Mary’s Education Center, 420 Irving Street, starting at 8 a.m.

It’s organized by TRIAD, a statewide organization composed of the sheriff’s office, the local police department and the county senior services director.

The goal of the expo is to reduce senior victimization and enhance the sense of security among seniors through education, training and community involvement.

Three presentations will feature problems and help by speakers and experts from the area. Among them will be Sheriff Troy Wolbersen, Police Chief Scott Kent and Dinara Dykema, county senior coordinator.

The main areas to be presented are awareness of online scams, emergency protocol, such as what happens when you dial 911, and reporting scams to law enforcement and receiving help and procedures.

The event is sponsored by Alomere Health and Elden’s Fresh Foods. There will be about 30 local area vendors there to explain their services and the procedures to secure them.

There is no cost of the event or the luncheon. Pre-register by calling the senior coordinator at 320-762-3047.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
