Another roundabout is in the works. This one will be located at the intersection of County Road 45 and County Road 82 near the YMCA west of Alexandria.
Douglas County commissioners approved a design agreement with Widseth at its Tuesday, July 6, regular board meeting. Widseth is an architecture, engineering, environmental and surveying firm with an office in North Dakota and eight offices in Minnesota, including Alexandria.
Douglas County Public Works Director Tim Erickson said the design work should be done by March 2022 so that the project can be bid on in April 2022. If all goes according to plan, construction of the roundabout would begin next summer, said Erickson.

The project will be designed as a Minnesota Department of Transportation/County State Aid project and will need to be submitted to the State Geometrics Office for approval. The cost of the design work is not expected to exceed $149,400, as that is what the commissioners approved at Tuesday’s meeting.
The city of Alexandria will also be responsible for a small portion of the cost of the project as the road that leads into the YMCA, Karl Drive, is a city road, said Erickson.
The total cost of the project will be determined after the design process.
Right-of-way vacated
Douglas County commissioners approved a resolution vacating a right-of-way along County Road 11 north of Alexandria. The right-of-way is on the property at 5961 County Road 11 NW.
In 1946, County Road 11 was moved to its current location along Lake Carlos. However, prior to that it ran through the property. When the road was moved, ownership of the right-of-way did not change, which meant the county still owned it.
By vacating that section of land, it goes back to the property owners. This benefits the county as the county can now collect taxes on that piece of the property.
