OSAKIS — Osakis juniors and seniors got a chance to see what a car crash can be like last week.
That's because on Wednesday, May 18, a variety of different entities came together to stage a mock car crash and make a presentation to the students.

"If you can save one life so the parents, the brothers, the sisters, the teachers don't have to go through this, it's well worth it," said firefighter Mark Pomerleau.
The crash was staged on the public boat landing and featured two vehicles with several people in each vehicle.

The presentation showed exactly what happens as authorities arrive on the scene, and concluded with one of the crash victims being taken away in a hearse.

The entire scene was played with commentary from Pomerleau and retired firefighter Dana Hetland.

Pomerleau said the mock crashes have been staged since the early 2000s, usually every two years, and that sometimes guest speakers appear, as well.
"We had a fatality a number of years ago, and his sister came and did a speech, and she knocked it out of the park," Pomerleau said.

Among the entities participating in Wednesday's mock crash were the Osakis Fire Department, Osakis First Responders, the Osakis Police Department, North Ambulance, Anderson Funeral Home, LifeLink, the Osakis School District and city crews.
The vehicles were donated by Bill Dropik of Nelson and the make-up was done by West Central EMS.

Pomerleau thanked all of the employers who let workers off to come participate in the presentation.
