OSAKIS — The public is invited to attend an open house to learn about the upcoming roadwork and detour on Highway 27 in the Osakis area.

The event will take place at Osakis Community Center, 18 E Nokomis St., Tuesday, April 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests can come and go as they please during the event as a formal presentation will not be given.

A project team from the Minnesota Department of Transportation will have design layouts to view and will be available to answer questions. For those unable to make the in-person open house, information is provided on the project webpage .

Detour May to November

According to MnDOT:

Highway 27 will close between Todd County Road 51/ Douglas County Road 82 in Osakis and Highway 71 south of Long Prairie. The project will require a detour that uses Highway 71 to Todd County Road 2 to County Road 51 to Osakis. Access will be maintained and open to businesses, visitors and residents along Highway 27.

The project will replace four bridges; reconstruct, resurface, widen the road and improve safety and access; repair or replace drainage pipes; and reconstruct the Lake Wobegon Trail bridge over Highway 27 in Osakis.

When complete in November, the $19.5 million project will provide a smoother, wider road surface, updated drainage and improved safety for travelers.
