Oratory contest open to all Minnesota girls

Topic is "A More Perfect Union."

Girls in grades nine through 12 who live in Minnesota are invited to enter an oratory contest for a chance to compete in St. Paul.

A project of Metro Republican Women say the biennial competition is open to girls from any type of school, including homeschool, public, private, charter or other school, and that the event is nonprofit and nonpartisan.

The event is called Speaking Proudly 2021, and the topic is "A More Perfect Union," Rising to the Challenge. Application will be accepted between Sunday, Aug. 1 and Wednesday, Sept. 11. An application form and complete instructions are available at speakingproudly.org/students.

The event will be Saturday, Oct. 23, at the State Capitol in St. Paul. According to competition spokeswoman Sherie Wallace, 25 girls will be selected to compete, based on the quality of the speech descriptions they submit. The three finalists will win prizes of $1,500, $1,000 and $500.

She stressed that the application deadline is “absolutely final, no extensions allowed.”
