Thomas John Vickerman, 95, died December 29, 2007.

Tom was born August 2, 1912 on the Vickerman home farm in Ida Township to Reuben and Theresa (Darling) Vickerman. Tom attended country school and graduated from Central High School in Alexandria. Following his schooling he worked on the home farm.

On May 18, 1935 Tom was united in marriage to Lucille Johnson in Alexandria. They made their home on the home farm where they were blessed with four children, Dorothy, Doris, Theresa and Tom Jr. Farming was Tom's life. He began as a dairy farmer. After selling the cattle in 1970 he continued crop farming and began selling crop insurance. In 1973 Tom earned his realtor's license and worked for Amundson Realty where he concentrated his efforts on agricultural property. Tom's love for farming kept him driving tractor until he was 91 years old. He still continued on the lawn tractor. Tom was always active on the farm where he lived his entire life.

Tom served his community as a member of several boards including the FHA and Garfield Elevator boards. He was active in his church, serving wherever he was needed. Tom and Lucille traveled the United States extensively including visits to Hawaii and Alaska. They traveled through Europe and Mexico. Tom enjoyed fishing and loved music. He also loved food, especially his meat and potatoes. Tom was a storyteller; he gave his family and friends many hours of entertainment and joy through his storytelling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; daughter, Theresa Ohnstad; sister, Ella Satterlund; grandson, DeWayne Noetzelman; and brothers, Miles, Clifford and Howard Vickerman.

Tom is survived by his son, Tom and wife, Pat Vickerman, of Alexandria; two daughters, Dorothy Shinn of Alexandria, Doris and husband, Roger Thompson, of Alexandria; grandchildren, Dawn Kortuem, Todd Noetzelman, Lane Noetzelman, Jason Mittelbusher, Chad Mittelbusher, Kristina Zook, Shannon Vickerman and Josh Vickerman; 14 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Leo Ohnstad; sister-in-law, Lilly Vickerman; many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held January 3, 2008 at United Methodist Church in Alexandria. The Rev. Jeff Hansen officiated and Gale Maxwell provided music. Interment followed at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Casket bearers included all of Tom's grandchildren. Honorary casket bearers included Don and Barbara Shelby and family, Bruce Jordan and Tom Zauche.
