The Douglas County Honor Guard and Garfield Fire Department conducted ceremonies amidst flags on the 3M lawn on Friday morning at 8:55 and 9:25. After marching to the center of the flags, the members stood silently for several minutes in honor of the victims. A large flag was also hung over the field by the ladder truck from the Alexandria Fire Department. Members of the Garfield Fire Department stood next to the ladder truck in honor of the firefighters who died when the towers collapsed.
Friday marks the 19th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center towers and Pentagon.
The flags were put up on the 3M property adjacent to Highway 29 on Thursday night, and will be removed Sunday evening.
