New pastor appointed at Alexandria United Methodist Church

There will be a service celebrating the appointment on Sunday, July 10 at the 9 a.m. worship time.

ALEXANDRIA — The Alexandria United Methodist Church recently announced that Bishop David Bard has appointed Rev. Amy Van Valkenberg as a minister in the Alexandria community.

There will be a service celebrating the appointment on Sunday, July 10 at the 9 a.m. worship time. Visitors are welcome to attend. A reception and light brunch will be held immediately following the service.

Van Valkenberg and her family come from the Long Prairie area. She has earned a bachelors of arts degree in women's studies from Augsburg University and a master of arts (teaching English as a second language) from St. Cloud State.

She is completing her master of divinity studies at Luther Seminary in St. Paul. Vam Valkenberg has served Joyful Spirit UMC in Wadena/Deer Creek and the Rosendale and Atwater UMC's prior to her appointment in Alexandria.

Rev. Amy and her husband, Thomas, have three children: Lydia (20), Elliot (18) and Sawyer (12) and are looking forward to involvement in the Alexandria community.
