ALEXANDRIA — The City of Alexandria is starting the process of planning for the future of the parks and trails system. And with that, they want to hear from the public.
Bill Thoennes, Parks and Facilities director, said the Alexandria City Council has approved the Park Board to move forward with a Parks and Trails Master Plan Project.
"We are in the beginning stages of conducting that plan for the future of the parks and trials system in Alexandria," he said. "With this, we would like to hear from you and how you use the parks in the area and what you would like to see in our park system."

A short survey has been set up for the public to fill out online. It can be filled out by going to or clicking on the following link: www.surveymonkey.com/r/AlexandriaParksAndTrailsPlan.
The survey will remain open until the end of September, said Thoennes. After the results have been tallied, the next step is to hold a public meeting, which is expected to happen sometime in October.

"All the info will assist the Park Board and the City Council in creating a 'road map' of the future of the parks," he added. "It will let us know what is important to the residents and park goers who visit our 22 parks we have in the city."
The final master plan project is expected to be completed in spring of 2023.
